How are lasers used in our dental office?

Patient in Dental Room

  • Laser cavity filling. Our team is excited to use today’s technology to prepare a tooth for the placement of a filling after tooth decay has been found with much less pain and discomfort. Laser devices are used to prepare the natural tooth and remove decay by vaporizing it using laser light energy. Because of the process used when preparing a tooth with lasers, patients can also maintain more of the natural tooth structure.
  • Laser gum treatment. Our dental laser treatments can also be used for advanced gum disease treatment and therapy. As a part of our comprehensive approach to overall oral health, we may use lasers to target the bacteria in areas where traditional methods have not been effective. This allows us to keep your gums healthier, which ultimately helps protect your healthy teeth!

Laser Dentistry FAQs

How does laser dentistry work for cavity fillings?

Dr. Mirmooji uses advanced laser technology to remove decay with incredible precision while preserving more of the healthy tooth structure. Unlike traditional drills, lasers use light energy to gently vaporize decayed areas, reducing discomfort and eliminating the need for anesthesia in many cases. The laser also sterilizes the treated area, lowering the risk of bacterial infection and promoting faster healing.

What are the benefits of laser gum treatment compared to traditional methods?

Laser gum treatment at Dr. Mirmooji’s office is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional gum surgery. The laser targets and removes infected tissue while stimulating the body’s natural healing response. This results in less bleeding, reduced swelling, and a faster recovery time. Unlike traditional scalpels and sutures, laser treatment is more comfortable and allows for quicker healing with minimal discomfort.

Is laser dentistry a painless option for cavity fillings and gum treatments?

Many patients at Dr. Mirmooji’s practice report little to no discomfort during laser cavity fillings and gum treatments. Since lasers work without a traditional drill’s pressure, heat, or vibrations, they significantly reduce pain and sensitivity. In many cases, anesthesia isn’t even necessary, making laser dentistry an excellent choice for patients with dental anxiety or sensitivity to numbing agents.

How does laser dentistry promote faster healing?

Dr. Mirmooji’s laser treatments are designed to be as gentle as possible on the surrounding tissues. The laser cauterizes blood vessels and nerve endings during treatment, minimizing bleeding and reducing inflammation. This helps speed up recovery, allowing patients to return to normal routines more quickly than traditional dental procedures.

Are laser cavity fillings as durable as traditional fillings?

Yes, laser cavity fillings performed by Dr. Mirmooji are just as durable—if not more so—than those placed with traditional methods. Because lasers allow for more precise decay removal and better bonding of filling materials to the tooth, the result is a strong, long-lasting restoration. The added precision also helps preserve more natural teeth, leading to a healthier and more stable structure.

Who is a good candidate for laser gum treatment?

Dr. Mirmooji recommends laser gum treatment for patients experiencing gum disease, excessive gum tissue, or gum inflammation. It’s especially beneficial for those seeking a less invasive alternative to traditional gum surgery. Because laser treatment minimizes discomfort and promotes faster healing, it’s an excellent option for patients with busy lifestyles or those who experience anxiety about dental procedures.

Is laser dentistry safe, and how does it compare to traditional methods?

Laser dentistry is an extremely safe and effective option for treating cavities and gum disease. Dr. Mirmooji uses state-of-the-art laser technology to gently treat tissues while providing precise treatment. Compared to traditional drills and scalpels, lasers reduce the risk of infection, minimize pain, and accelerate healing, making them an excellent choice for modern dental care.
