A healthy mouth consists of both healthy gums and teeth. A good oral hygiene routine protects your teeth from decay and gums from gum disease. Periodontal disease (advanced gum disease) is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. The good news is that gum disease can be controlled in its early stage of gingivitis, and gum health can be restored through gum disease treatment. Dr. Ramin Mirmooji and the team from Msmiline Cosmetic Dentistry offer gingivitis treatment to our patients in Pierrefonds, Quebec, and nearby communities.
Periodontal disease is a bacterial gum infection that can weaken the bone structure and roots of your teeth, causing them to fall out. It’s mainly caused by plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth due to poor oral hygiene.
Early gum disease is called gingivitis. Early symptoms of gingivitis are often so mild they may go unnoticed by most people. As the disease advances, however, your symptoms will worsen. Some of the most common symptoms are:
Dr. Mirmooji and the team can detect early warning signs of gum disease during a routine exam. That’s why it’s essential to see your dentist regularly. Left unchecked, gingivitis can develop into periodontal disease, a more serious gum infection that requires extensive treatment.
Early signs of gingivitis can often be managed with good oral hygiene at home and routine dental cleanings. Routine cleanings remove plaque and tartar along the gum line to keep harmful bacteria from destroying your teeth.
If the infection has spread beneath your gum line, we may suggest a deep cleaning. Our office offers non-surgical periodontal therapy that uses laser technology to promote firm gums that are well attached to the teeth surfaces. Laser therapy is a non-surgical, minimally invasive dental procedure that uses focused beams of light to treat infection and gum inflammation, providing a comfortable treatment experience.
Our team uses special dental tools to rid your mouth of infection and help your gums heal. After a deep cleaning, you’ll notice a marked improvement in the condition of your gums. Although there’s no cure for advanced gum disease, deep cleaning can help manage symptoms and save your teeth.
Once you’ve had gingivitis treatment, you’ll need to practice good oral care to keep your gums and teeth healthy. Otherwise, your symptoms could return and leave you in a worse state than before. In addition to good oral hygiene at home, Dr. Mirmooji and the team may recommend quarterly dental cleanings, eating a healthy diet, limiting sugary foods and drinks, and keeping the mouth hydrated by drinking water often are additional oral health habits that help keep your teeth and gums strong and healthy.
